Tri-Community South EMS has donated a surplus Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to a hospital in Zimbabwe.
The service donated the AED to The Nyadire Connection (TNC,) a volunteer organization that supports the United Methodist Mission in Nyadire, Zimbabwe. Tri-Community South has donated supplies to TNC in the past. Sue Bower, a nurse in the emergency department at Jefferson Regional Medical Center and former Tri-Community South volunteer, is a volunteer with The Nyadire Connection. Sue is the wife of Tri-Community South EMS supervisor John Bower.
The Rev. Julius Tsiga, chaplain to the Nyadire Hospital, and his wife, Joyce, received the AED during a trip to Pittsburgh in November to visit with their friends in TNC. The AED was presented to the Tsigas by Tri-Community South EMS director Nora Helfrich and supervisor John Bower.
The AED will be put to use in the Nyadire Hospital, where supplies that US residents expect to find in a hospital are often absent. The AED donated by Tri-Community South will be the only defibrillator present in the hospital.
The Tsigas offered their thanks to Tri-Community South and The Nyadire Connection in assisting them in their mission.
