On Saturday, September 11, 2010 in Grantville, Pa Chris Geraci, EMT and John Bower, EMT-P, Supervisor were presented with the Star of Life Award at the PA EMS Provider Foundation and Fourth Annual PA EMS 911 Event. Both John and Chris were presented the award for the years of service, dedication and contributions each have made in Emergency Medical Services.
The event began with a Moment of Silence by John Glass, board member for the EMS National EMS Memorial honoring all those Emergency Medical Providers who died in the line of duty. Barry Albertson, Jr., Foundation Chairman provided the Foundation Update and the Stars of Life Presentation and acknowledgement of the Somerset Disaster Responders.
A formal sit down dinner was followed by the Presentation of the Grant Awards and Keynote Speaker was Marie Magaro.
Ms. Magaro was on duty with the New York City Fire Marshals in September 2001 with her first trip to ground zero at the World Trade Center. Marie shared her experiences from the recovery efforts and discussed the importance of EMS and fire services in mass casualty events. Ms. Magaro is affiliated with many fire departments and her experience ranges from the Public Safety Agency's, Arson Teach & Search, Arson Terrorism, Fire Investigation and Fire and Crime Scene Photography. She was made honorary Fire Marshal of Staten Island and a fire investigator of New York State.
